2009 Dodge Caliber SXT

2009 Dodge Caliber SXT

The Dodge Caliber always seemed to have a bit of a reputation as basically being a "meh" car since it comes across as a really cheap vehicle with the build quality and a driving experience to match.

A quick internet search of reviews for this vehicle showed a good number of reviews about these cars, the main point in most of them is that they are really good as basic transportation, built for people who may consider them as just appliances - a tool to make everyday life easier, not really made for anyone that really likes driving cars.

In 2012 I was looking at replacing my 2004 Honda CRV. During my search, I did try out a 2011 Caliber since I was very intrigued by the low price on the Caliber.

While it was OK to drive, I did immediately notice the abundance of hard plastic that was contained in the interior, and the engine noise was quite a bit louder than my CRV. Considering that this would be a vehicle that I would be living with for the good part of a decade, I decided to move on to something else.

This particular Caliber was built during the third year of production for the car and it was the SXT trim level of the Caliber

When compared to the base level SE, the SXT had more features are available such as a standard. Air conditioning, a Chill Zone beverage cooler inside the front lower glove compartment. The driver's seat also had a feature to adjust the seat height.  Power windows, locks, mirrors, and remote keyless entry are included. The cargo area also included a removable and rechargeable flashlight

Here in Canad the SXT trim level models also featured body-colored grilles instead of chrome grilles.

This Caliber was powered by a 2-liter cylinder engine that delivered 158 horsepower to a CVT transmission.

This particular Caliber spent a rather uneventful life tooling around the local area here until it was quietly retired in December of 2018.

In the end for all the flack that you hear about the Dodge Caliber, I do have to respect this car for the unassuming service that it had done for 10 years for its owner.

Rest in Peace.
